HOW TO RUN A GOOD NEWS DESK COURSE - Thursday and Friday September 9 and 10 at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Berkeley, just off the M5 between Bristol and Gloucester.

An ideal course for news editors, their assistants or chief reporters who need some training in how to run the news desk, or senior reporters being considered for promotion. The course covers all the basics, points out many of the problems news editors encounter and then identifies the solutions. In addition time is spent on the non-journalistic organisation/management skills required to run a successful news desk, spotting the real stories, delegating work fairly, motivating reporters and managing time well. The second afternoon is spent analysing how to handle people and how to get the best out of a diverse team.

Cost - £395 plus VAT

Delegates get a full cooked lunch on both days plus ample coffee/tea/biscuits

NATIONAL CERTIFICATE REFRESHER AND MOCK EXAM COURSE - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday October 13, 14 and 15 2010 before the early November exam.

The third day is a full mock exam. All test papers are marked and returned to editors along with a detailed course assessment which indicates areas needing attention prior to the exam.

Venue: Prince of Wales Hotel, Berkeley, between Bristol and Gloucester and just off the M5.

Cost: £449 plus VAT. This includes a cooked lunch on the first two days, a sandwich lunch on day three and ample tea/coffee/soft drinks/biscuits on all three days.
