Curriculum vitae
Current Position: Runs a newspaper management consultancy and journalism training company. The former involves advising newspapers on their strategies, doing editorial and management audits, helping with re-designs and training staff through one of 20 training courses (both in-house and external).
More than 200 regional newspapers have used the consultancy and training company since it was launched in 1988. Training courses vary from basic skills training for reporters to editorial management. David specialises in a variety of law courses, including saw lefreshers.
He is a speaker at various UK and international newspaper conferences.
Previous experience
- Managing director of the Birmingham Daily News and a group of large weekly newspapers in the West Midlands 1983-88.
- Editor of the Daily News for initial 18 months.
- Prior to that:
- Group managing editor of Reed Midland Newspapers (18 weeklies and two evenings)
- Editor of Banbury Guardian and Romford Observer
- Assistant to the managing director, Essex Chronicle Series.
